Habiba M. Kamel
Photographer, filmmaker, and festivals coordinator. After graduating 1st of my class from Film and Media studies at the BUE, I am always looking to participate and take part in film festivals and cinema industry. Passionate towards cinematography and film production, I was selected for CineGouna Emerge in GFF’s 6th Edition. Currently working as an assistant producer at CHAOS FILMS and forever pursuing my dream as a filmmaker. Skilled project manager, as a result of my work in film production and event coordination. This is next to my experience in entertainment venue management, backstage management, events’ photography, and film festival program coordination. I strongly believe in the medium of film as a powerful mean of self-expression, one that the entire world can relate to. The creative freedom tied more closely to short films attracts me and so does the loyalty to portraying real emotions within narratives.
Artist Statement
As a photographer, at 11 years old, I held my first camera. I’ve always been fascinated by the power of a lens. The ability to bring out the emotions in people and places I come across, and saving the moment forever. Whenever I have a camera in my hand, I take it as an opportunity to explore. I enjoy experimenting with different styles and all kinds of subjects. While it is common among photographers to find a single style and stick to it, I find myself trying them all. Every setting and every subject require their own approach. Hence, photography brings out the most creative side of me. The constant challenge of finding the right angle is, in my opinion, the best thing about it. I treat my viewfinder as window and create stories for whatever I see through it. Just as I experiment with styles, I also experiment with mediums. Drifting between the digital DSLR camera, the point-and-shoot film camera, and my smartphone’s camera is always interesting.
As a filmmaker, I strongly believe in the medium of film as a powerful mean of self-expression, one that the entire world can relate to. The creative freedom tied more closely to short films attracts me and so does the loyalty to portraying real emotions within narratives. I find myself most alive when on set, and find the process of creating any short film an opportunity to thrive. Joining the field of filmmaking, be it as a producer, cinematographer, or director has been a longtime goal of mine and one that I plan on pursuing in all ways possible.
