Aya Mohamed Omar
Aya Mohamed Omar, a 23-year emerging curator and visual artist. I am currently a senior student at The Faculty of Fine Arts – Alexandria University. I have made my way into curation through volunteering at Arts and Culture organizations which have allowed me to gain hands on experience in the art field. As curator I have curated two exhibitions: (Art Against Violence – Group Exhibition – October 2025 at Goethe Cultural Garage) which featured twenty artists alongside two guests of honors, and (The Not So-Called Path – Group Exhibition – April 2026 at Goethe Cultural Garage) which featured twelve artists. Throughout these two exhibitions I maintained my curatorial vision by creating a whole immersive experience for the viewers in order to highlight the exhibition’s as well as the artists’ vision and concept. My curatorial practice allows me to focus on how art resonates with the audience and how to curate exhibitions not only for the sake of showcasing artworks but also for creating a unique artistic space for interactivity and interpretation.
Artist Statement
As a curator and an emerging artist, I try to discover overlooked situations and create art out of them in order to let the viewer experience new aspects of what they have always known. Breaking the cycle of what is known and what is taken for granted is what challenges me to create and curate as well. I express myself and other living beings in my curatorial practice and art, as a depiction of what goes around in real life but not paid attention to. I like to discuss personal experiences and topics through my work as emotions, social issues and their many narratives, but for my narrative it is all about the way I view things that are overlooked by others, letting the viewer acknowledge and experience the many different aspects and perspectives of many topics. The goal of my curatorial practice is creating new spaces and experiences of different topics allowing the viewer to step not just into an exhibition but an immersive experience, which allows them to undertake different aspects of topics all at once.

Flower of Life
2026
Video
The video is about the flower life, though the concept of the flower of life may vary according to diverse cultures, it is interesting and intriguing. The flower of life is not just symbolized as a flower but the effort and practice one makes to achieve what they have always longed for, the thing is eventually things might go under when one realizes that what they have dreamt of isn’t meant to be and would actually fade away in the flash of an eye. The concept is about continuously evolving and trying nonstop in order to achieve something you thought you had an idea of, but you totally do not. The concept explores different aspects of the flower of the flower through my Owen interpretation, aspects like materialism, persistence, determination, and disappointment which will all result in a state of self discovery. The project objective is to allow the viewer to witness how a journey of reaching one’s goal truly is, things do not always turn the way people expect. The project invites the viewer to step out of their shoes and witness themselves through someone else’s eyes. I think it’s best to approach this concept through film as it would exemplify the concept truly in an honest simple way. The reason why I also think a film would be in favor of the idea as the film would deliver the concept in a way that would make the viewer immersed in the whole experience and reflecting it on their own lives, allowing a space for interpretation and self discovery.
