Afnan, a 22-year-old Egyptian aspirant artist who refuses to follow a single path, finds herself involved in painting, recycling, crafts, theater, content creation, and filmmaking. She believes that creativity is limitless and will never be limited, and she is more concerned with expressing herself and creating space for herself and her audience to meet in the middle. She looks forward to learning contemporary dancing and Islamic arts. Her journey has just started, or maybe it did start when she was 6 and building paper planes with glue and tape, and as people come by on her journey, the blurry, limitless destination becomes clearer; they teach and inspire her, and she becomes more of the artist she has been since childhood. At the end, what’s the meaning of life if we all can’t be artists?

Artist Statement

I love mixing sustainability in my art; I collect lots of “garbage” (AKA used paper, cardboard, plastics, etc.) and then turn it from nothing into something, although it had always been something, yet people fail to see it. I choose to see it. In my photography, I like abstract symmetric shots, and in filmmaking, I prefer calm, quiet atmospheres that give the observer a chance to contemplate and look not just outward but inward. I love painting; painting is the ultimate way for me to express how I feel and get all my trapped emotions out.
