Rania Daabes began photography in 2019, with a particular interest in street photography. Over time, she found herself constantly asking: What am I photographing, and why? Through this process of reflection, she realized that her work revolves around recurring visual and emotional elements, especially fog, birds, and color.
Fog represents the parts of her life that remain undefined and uncertain, existing in a state of ambiguity. Birds symbolize freedom and the desire to move through life on her own terms, beyond the expectations imposed by society, institutions, or individuals. Color, meanwhile, reflects her emotional connection to the beginning and end of the day, moments she considers the most meaningful and intimate.
More recently, she has begun focusing on long-term photographic projects, seeing them as a way to rediscover herself and reconsider the world around her through a different lens. Her work also explores the extent to which social norms and collective expectations shape individual identity, particularly in the lives of women.
