Born in Cairo in 1999, Eslam Seif El Nasr is a multidisciplinary artist working across visual art, curatorial, and educational practices. His work engages with commentary, satire, and deconstruction as methods for producing art and knowledge, while questioning dominant narratives surrounding history, culture, and economics.

His practice moves fluidly between traditional studio-based approaches, research, archiving, documentation, and publishing. Drawing from everyday life, his work explores subjects such as street art, informal artistic practices, kitsch, and post-internet art.

Most of his projects are experimental in nature, yet moves towards exploration of new ways of knowledge and artistic practice that embrace both inclusivity and subjectivity.

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Fine Arts, Department of Oil Painting, Capital University (Helwan University)

ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic, research-based, and educational practice is fundamentally experimental, seeking to propose alternative approaches to artistic and knowledge production beyond the inherited frameworks of colonial thought that continue to shape our understanding of heritage. These attempts are not merely concerned with dismantling colonial legacies, but rather with reading and understanding lived reality as an extension of a recent past that may offer insight into the nature of our present identity.

For this reason, my work and practice are deeply invested in placing contradictions and dissimilarities alongside one another, whether in image-making, knowledge production, or curatorial practice. This juxtaposition does not aim solely to disrupt conventional notions of coherence within the viewer’s perception, but also to generate new ways of seeing the world — perspectives that may not be idealized, yet are more reflective of lived experience itself.

This philosophy extends into my visual art practice, influencing my choices of material, medium, image construction, and conceptual elements. In my work, I focus on creating imaginative environments and spatial experiences that merge the virtual with the real, the familiar with the strange, the beautiful with the grotesque, and the visible with the concealed, through an ongoing process of exploration and questioning.
